Dr. Shing-Ming Liao, a native of Taiwan, enjoys performing as a soloist as well as collaborating with a wide range of artists within many different art communities.

As a solo pianist, she was the winner of the Oberlin International Piano Competition, the Theodor Leschetizky International Piano Competition and the Taipei International Chopin Piano Competition. Liao has presented recitals, concerto concerts and masterclasses at institutions including the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the Kentucky Center Governor's School for the Arts, the University of Dayton, the Miami University of Ohio, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the California All-State Music Education Conference. As an active classical music performer who enjoys leading the audience by live interactions and verbal communications, she has been invited to give pre-concert talks, pre-concert recitals and live broadcasts at venues such as Cincinnati Music Hall, Cincinnati Memorial Hall and NPR Valley Public Radio. Besides her solo career path, she served as Collaborative Pianist at the Northern Kentucky University and the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competitions (Mid-South Regional and Central California Chapter). Liao served on the juries of the Keyboard Teachers Association Evaluation Festival as well.

Liao received a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where her study was granted by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, under the tutelage of Awadagin Pratt. She was awarded the Jane Young Scholarships twice by Phi Beta Fraternity in 2017 and 2018, for her outstanding outreaches which have engaged audience in the Greater Cincinnati. She also earned a Master of Music from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Taipei University of the Arts, where she studied with Emile Naoumoff, the legendary Nadia Boulanger’s last pupil, and Mei-Ling Wang, the first Taiwanese who graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music. Liao is currently a Collaborative Pianist at the California State University, Fresno. Her mission is to make a period of time and the duration meaningful to the audience by playing the piano.
